Directors

Cynthia Douglas is the head choir director at Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress Fairbanks I.S.D, and is a sought after clinician and adjudicator throughout the state. She has also taught at A. P. Solis Middle School in Donna, Edinburg North High School in Edinburg, Spring Woods Middle School in Houston, and Cy-Fair High School, earning UIL sweepstakes and top festival honors at each school. Most notably, the Cypress Ranch Chamber Choir was the winner of the American Classic Madrigal and Chamber Choir Festival in 2013 and 2022, and was a finalist in 2019 and 2021.

Before coming to choral conducting in Texas, Mrs. Douglas taught voice at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and at Millikin University in Illinois, where her students included the Broadway star Sierra Boggess. She has also performed with regional opera companies and orchestras throughout Texas and the Midwest, and made her New York debut in 2009, performing the soprano solos in Haydn’s Mass in Time of War and Mozart’s Requiem at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center with the Texas Master Chorale. Mrs. Douglas is also the Assistant Director of Music at the First Methodist Church of Houston, where she is blessed to make music every week with her husband Dr. Terry Morris, and son Robert Douglas.

 

Adam Bishea is an assistant choir director and AP music theory teacher at Cypress Ranch High School.  He is in his 13th year as a public school choir director, including 11 years in CFISD. Before coming to Cypress, Adam taught choir for two years at Stephen F. Austin Middle School in Bryan, TX.

Adam is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of both the University of Colorado in Boulder and Sam Houston State University.  While earning his Master’s degree in choral conducting, he conducted the top undergraduate mixed choir for three years as well as the men’s chorus during his final year in Colorado.  As a member of the Sam Houston Chorale, he sang in one ACDA and two TMEA honor choirs conducted by Dr. Allen Hightower.  Adam sang Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Houston Ballet, and traveled with the Sam Houston Chorale to Italy to give concerts across the country, including inside the Roman Pantheon.  Adam has also performed under the direction of world renowned conductors Paul Salamunovich and Josepf Flummerfelt.

Adam’s wife, Sara Bishea, is the choir director at Smith Middle School.  They are avid baseball fans and enjoy spending time with their sons, Archer and Everett, and cat, Hazel.

Stefanie Stephens is an assistant choir director and sponsor of the Tri-M Music Honor Society at Cypress Ranch High School. She is in her 17th year of teaching, all in Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District, and was the choir director at Cook Middle School for 13 years before moving to the high school level in 2019. Her choirs have consistently received sweepstakes awards at U.I.L. Concert & Sight-reading Contests and Best in Class at festivals around the state. In 2014, her Advanced Girls Choir was a Mark of Excellence National Winner for the Foundation of Music Education. Stefanie also accompanies for choirs at Region XXVII All-Region concerts and other groups throughout the Houston area. Stefanie graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston with her Bachelor of Music in 2006. Her professional affiliations include TMEA, TCDA, and TMAA. In addition to teaching, Stefanie enjoys reading, cooking, and spending time with her family.
